What are the major benefits of ingredients used?

Policosanol is a long-chain alcohol that is derived from sugar-cane wax. Policosanol was approved for use in Cuba in 1991. It has been shown in randomized, double-blind studies to significantly lower overall cholesterol levels, and raise HDLs while lowering LDLs. It also reduces other cardiac risk factors, such as blood clots high blood pressure and atherosclerosis

An article in the American Heart Journal published in 2002 reported that policosanol "lowers total cholesterol by 17% to 21% and LDLs by 21% to 29%... and raises HDLs by 8% to 15%." And, in tests that were head-to-head vs. statins, policosanol won. This was at doses of 10 mg to 20 mg per day. The authors state that at higher doses, policosanol could be even more effective.

Finally, the authors concluded that "policosanol seems to be a very promising phytochemical alternative to classic lipid-lowering agents, such as the statins, and deserves further evaluation."
